New Use For Kitchen Dish

I just found this piece.  I love the knob on the top and the shape at the bottom of the bowl.  I couldn't see any markings when I bought it, but I have found that it is a Federal casserole dish.  Yes, I would love it in my kitchen, but I thought it would also look wonderful in a vintage bath  -you could fill it with cotton balls, round soaps, or just have it for looks!  Most of the styles I have found online have a pattern, being plain, this one would go anywhere.  I'll be listing in on my website soon.

It's nothing fancy but the frogs are enjoying it.  My son helped get the rocks sorted out.  We've changed it a bit from what is was.  No waterfall, we might have a small amount of water somewhere in the back left corner, just haven't decided yet.  This is my view from my kitchen window, I've missed it!

Franciscan Fine China -Silver Pine

I found this beautiful china at an antique sale a few weeks ago.  As with all of my items I did some research to find out the history.  The Gladding, McBean & Co., started out in 1875 making sewer tile . Thru the years they acquired several potteries and expanded their lines, located in California.  Originally the dinnerware was sold as Franciscan Pottery and consisted of bright earthenware in the Mexican folk style.  The name was associated with the Franciscan monks.  In the late 1930's the name was changed to Franciscan Ware for a more upscale image. The Fine China line was introduced in 1942.  This changed to Franciscan Masterpiece China after 1958 and production continued in the United States until 1978.   These dishes have a light turquoise background with a pine needle and  white pine cone design.  The turquoise goes well with the creamy white and silver detail.  I have started listing several of these i...

I love the look of this enlarged envelope for art, found on the Southern Living site , and using an envelope from a relative adds to it.. “This is one of my favorite things,” says George of the framed envelope in the dining room. It was addressed by George’s great-grandmother to her uncle, George’s namesake, in 1917. He found it tucked away in his grandfather’s dresser. A local printer scanned and enlarged the envelope.
