Rabbit In Cabbage Automata

There is an old movie that is one of my favorites -"You Can't Take It With You", with Lionel Barrymore, Jean Arthur, and Jimmy Stewart, to name a few. In one scene they show a wind up toy rabbit, popping his head up out of a head of cabbage. I can't believe I found not one, but two of those toy rabbits this weekend. These are from the early 1900's at least. The blue one has a key but he is not working, and I have no key for the poor green one. He's looking a little rough, I think the moths may have gotten to him a bit. I'm going to see if I can send them to the rabbit hospital, depends on the fees. But they are just wonderful to enjoy looking at!

When they are working, you wind them up with the key, then pull the lever out, music plays and the rabbits head comes up, the ears move, the one in green munches some of his cabbage. There are several videos online that show some in action.

New Items Found

Now that the weather is warming up, the yards sales are posted, the flea market is busy, I'm in heaven! Just thought I would post a few of the great items I found this weekend. I really love this nursery scale, how wonderful would it look in a vintage babies room, or grandbabies! It's in great condition.

Easter Bunny Doll - Does She Look Like A Rabbit?

I was in my doll phase a few years ago, I was trying to make a rabbit doll for Easter. I don't think I got the head quite right. She does have long ears, but I think I missed on the facial features, please tell me what you think -good or bad!!!

I added the little chick, since it was for Easter.....

I do like her dress, it came from some quilting fabric I had purchased.

I just don't know about the face.
I used a blue fabric for her legs for stockings, and painted on her shoes, with little pearl buttons for fastening.

Crown Devon Stockholm -An Obsession

I think these are the most beautiful dishes, the creamy white and the deep red.
I knew nothing about these being popular due to a cookbook. I noticed them in a nearby antique shop sometime last year. Each time I went back I would be reminded how much I liked them as they caught my eye. But they were a bit pricey for me, so I just enjoyed them through the glass. So what should I do? Take my husband with me of course. After Christmas, carrying a bit of Christmas money with me, and my husband, we went shopping. We stopped in to check out the dishes, I had told him about them on the way. So, after much discussion, we left with the dishes, my husband contributing what would be my birthday present coming up the next month. I was so excited, thinking I could easily add to them - I found out different. They are very popular and usually only found in the United Kingdom. The original purchase was for two dinner plates, two tea cups with three saucers, nine desert plates, and the cheese-butter dish.

I have been able to add so far, five smaller plates, one creamer -with a slight chip, and one beautiful covered serving dish. This is one collection that I wouldn't mind if friends and family overwhelmed me with pieces!

Collecting -Owl Bookplate And Owl Inkstand

I found this beautiful owl inkstand in an antique shop not long ago. I just fell in love with the face of the owl on the top of the ink bottle.

And, recently I found these beautiful bookplates in a wonderful etsy shop - www.etsy.com/shop/sandmarg, I just had to have them to go with my inkstand. When I received them they were just what I wanted, and they were packaged so beautifully.

But I know you have to be careful when you start collecting certain items, number one it's so easy to get carried away in spending, and number two, everyone starts giving you items with the collectible on them. My mother fell in love with pigs many years ago, and my sister went HOG wild, ha, in giving her everything to do with pigs. So, my mother soon lost interest in her pigs and got rid of most. I don't intend to let it be known, I'm loving the owls.

Patiently Waiting For Spring

A beautiful warm sunny day today. It inspired me to get out and work on the yard, lots of leaves and sticks, and other things I ignored last year and really need to be done this year. We really have two yards, an old house on the property and where we are living now -so there is a lot to keep up with, and I love to dig in the dirt. I was really working on my etsy shop a lot last year and I let some things go, so I am determined to catch up. I found these pictures of things to come and thought you might enjoy them...........

Short Haired Woman In Cabinet Photo

I don't normally find several cabinet photos that contain the same person, or people. Also, I have purchased many cabinet photos over the last year and this is the only woman I have found with short hair. She seems to be a proud young woman, I would just love to know her story. She seems to be from California, since Woodland California is where the photo gallery is located.

In this picture she does seem to have longer hair, and spit curls. I have decided this must be her mother, since she is standing close and has her hand over her mothers hand.

And, I have decided this must be her mother-in-law, since she is standing some distance away.

Because here she is with, I will guess, her husband.

I have studied these pictures for quite some time, unfortunately it doesn't help in getting information. I have sold all of the photos except the one of her by herself. I am staring at it now and wishing it could tell me -something.
